What is egg tempera?

For my Premium Custom Ketubah, I use permanent, archival materials:  museum-quality, acid-free rag paper, india ink and egg tempera paint.  I make the paint from scratch, using pure pigments and egg yolk, in the manner of Renaissance artists such as Botticelli.  Their works remain brilliant in color, hundreds of years after they were painted.
